Doctor of Medicine

The St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine-William H. Quasha Memorial (SLMC-CM WHQM) was established in 1994 as an embodiment of the dream of Atty. William H. Quasha and the St. Luke’s Medical Center Board of Trustees, to build a school with the vision to become a center of excellence in medical education and research.

Over the years, our curriculum has evolved to focus not only on academics and research, as we continue to highlight the College core values of stewardship, professionalism, integrity, commitment and excellence. Aligned with the thrust of St. Luke’s Medical Center to promote patient safety and a more patient-centered approach to clinical care, the current curriculum is designed to develop clinical competence together with the highest standards for ethics, integrity, compassion, and professional behavior.

Since 2009, SLMC-CM WHQM graduates have shown consistent outstanding performance in the Physicians’ Licensure Examination. In 2016 and 2017, the Professional Regulation Commission awarded the College as the number one top performing school. Building upon recent milestone achievements and recognizing the need for continuing enrichment and enhancement in the medical curriculum, plans are underway to institutionalize digital learning strategies and systems through blended learning, e-learning, and a digital learning management system. Together with St. Luke’s Medical Center, the College plans to set up a center for clinical simulation and skills development, and further strengthen partnerships with local and international centers of excellence.

Under the dynamic leadership of President Dr. Dennis P. Serrano and Dean Dr. Maria Isabel M. Atienza, the SLMCCM-WHQM has embarked on the ambitious task of firmly establishing itself as a global leader in innovative medical education, envisioning even greater heights for the College as it works to create a unique identity as a top medical school.

The Medical Program

Our innovative, integrated 5-year curriculum aims to develop all the essential attributes of medical graduates through a systematic and purposeful integration of didactics with clinical study and a balanced pursuit of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and ethical values.

During pre-clinical Year Levels 1-3, discipline-based subjects are augmented by unique integrative subjects that span across multiple disciplines. The research curriculum is similarly integrated in the continuum of courses throughout the five year levels. Recognizing the important role of the medical humanities in developing the core competencies of a medical graduate, we have intensive core and elective courses dedicated to the subjects medical professionalism, medical ethics, legal medicine, and jurisprudence. After the pre-clinical years, our students undergo intensive, authentic learning through core clinical rotations and clinical, ethics, service learning, and research electives. The majority of rotations in Junior (Clinical Clerkship) and Senior Internship are held at the St. Luke’s Medical Center – Quezon City as the base hospital.
