Sustainable development cannot be achieved without improved health globally. At the same time, both sustainable development and health are affected by converging crises of climate change, environmental disasters, biodiversity loss, and global conflicts.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emanated as a tool for tackling these global grand challenges. It is evident now that improving health through such a complex adaptive system requires moving beyond traditional monodisciplinary attitudes towards a more holistic approach that enables interdisciplinary and intersectoral actions via equal partnerships.
However, designing, conducting, and informing policies through interdisciplinary and intersectoral projects comes with several personal, conceptual, and structural challenges such as how knowledge is valued, research funding are structured, and most importantly how interdisciplinary research and education are prioritized globally by different institutions.
If you are to become a change agent in interdisciplinary global and planetary health, and act upon necessary transformations as equal partners, and contribute to solving the grand challenges in global health through a UN 2030 Agenda, join us in this inspiring and interactive workshop and expand your global network with like-minded early career researchers.
In this workshop, both SIGHT and St. Luke’s fellows will share, discuss, and reflect on their personal and collective experiences on barriers and enabling factors in designing and developing interdisciplinary collaborations, as well as initiatives that are used to inform science-based strategies to solve wicked problems of our time. We will also invite stakeholders such as Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan and College of Public Health Science, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand to share their experiences on interdisciplinary policy initiatives.
