Student Research

At SLMCCM, students are introduced to research fundamentals during their first and second years, guided by the Department of Preventive and Community Medicine. In the first year, they learn basic research methodology and study design, and in the second year, they implement their approved research protocols as complete studies. In the third year, the Clinical Research Department provides students with a year-long course focused on the critical evaluation of medical literature and the synthesis of research. As part of this training, students learn to conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses, culminating in a full research paper as the course’s final output. During the second semester, students work on a particular health research protocol that they can work on in their Service Learning elective during their 4th and 5th year.

Apart from that, SLMCCM also emphasizes the teaching of research outside its curriculum. There are also other research activities that students may participate in to broaden their knowledge and improve their skills in research. These include (1) Research courses conducted outside class hours that covers topics from research design all the way to manuscript writing and; (2) Research immersion program held during the summer for students who wish to learn more about research writing during their break.
